How to Cook With a Tagine

Have you ever heard of a Tagine? Or maybe you’re wondering how to cook with a tagine?

If you’ve used them before, then you know what I’m talking about when I say it is amazing to cook with! I’ve had mine for YEARS and it is still one of my favorites to cook with.

How to cook with a Tagine

When you first look at it I’m sure you thought, what on earth is that and how does it work?

The top part lifts off and you’re left with a cast iron bottom. You put a little bit of water in the bottom along with whatever you plan on cooking.

From there, the water you put into the bottom heats up and evaporates. The shape of the top will send the condensation right back down. In essence, when put on heat, it’s a circular motion with the water that cooks your meal. I’ve yet to cook a meal that tasted dried out with this method! I personally prefer cooking chicken with a Tagine over every other method (aside from BBQ).

This is the Tagine I personally have (just a different color) however there are a ton of options for you to use.

Favorite Meal to Cook with a Tagine

My go to dish for cooking with the tagine is chicken.

I throw chicken, carrots, celery, and onions in it with some water. I add some seasoning if I really feel like it, usually a bit of this. Then I cook on low for about 45 minutes.

Voila! A super tasty and nutrias dinner!

The water that is left in the Tagine literally tastes like Chicken soup too! YUM!

Have you ever heard of a Tagine or used one?
